  • Fabric cleaner
  • Water
  • Spray bottle

  • Detachable shower head for those taking it into the tub
  • Distilled white vinegar

Doing a simple cleaning

Remove the mattress from the bed

Take off the best memory foam mattress topper from your bed and have it placed on a hard surface, preferably in a place that has a window and proper ventilation. Place something such as a tarp under the mattress to prevent getting water all over the place.

Clear out all the dust and debris

Use a hose attachment to vacuum the mattress. Work around in a circular motion to get rid of any debris that may have accumulated along both sides of the memory foam. Some of these mattresses come with small crevices that help increase the surface area of the foam. You need to be very careful while working your way inside every crevice present in the memory foam.

Do a spot cleaning

If there are any stains present on the mattress, use water along with a mild laundry detergent to get rid of it. A clean cotton cloth will be necessary to apply the liquid on to the memory foam. Simply dab the stain with this solution to get the desired results.

Don’t soak but spray on the mattress

Take a spray bottle and fill it in completely with mild laundry detergent and warm water in a ratio of one by two. Spray over the mattress until the complete surface has been covered up but never soak the memory foam. Allow this solution to sit in for several hours before moving on to the next step.

Remove any traces of detergent

Use a piece of clean, damp cotton cloth to press on the mattress until every trace of detergent has been cleaned away. If necessary, you can also have the cloth rinsed throughout the length of the cleaning process.

Time to flip it over

Flip over your mattress and spray on the underside with the detergent mixture you have created. Give it several hours of time to dry up. Now use a clean, damp cotton cloth to dab it until all traces of detergent have been cleaned away.

Give some time to dry

Place the mattress in a well-ventilated area to let it dry. Else there could be a risk of mildew formation on the memory foam. You should give around twenty-four hours for the mattress to dry down properly.

Making the memory foam odor-free

Odors from stains such as vomit or urine as well as from cigarette smoke in the air can linger inside the memory foam. In order to remove the odors, there are a number of methods that can be followed.

  • Take baking soda and sprinkle it over the entire memory foam product. Leave it on overnight. Use a handheld vacuum to clean thoroughly, or a soft brush attachment for the purpose
  • A citrus-based cleaning product can also come in handy. Spray the foam product lightly and leave behind to dry. Follow that up with a thorough vacuum
  • Commercially available products that are specialized for de-odorizing can also be applied for this purpose

Cleaning a memory foam product can prove laborious and extremely uncomfortable. However, cleaning them once in a while is necessary to ensure the life of the product is extended as much as possible. This will also help in keeping the memory foam clean and fresh for a longer duration.
